I once dumped a guy because he told me that The Fountainhead was his favorite book. That’s what I think of Ayn Rand.

In one of my high school business classes, Advanced Entrepreneurship, we studied Atlas Shrugged. (As a young and sadly confused libertarian, I “majored” in business). I was almost expelled from school for arguing that Rand’s understanding of capitalism was overly simplistic and didn’t properly account for the massive role that trusts and finance capital had/have on capitalism.
Randian’s aren’t so much smug as they are self-absorbed authoritarian time bombs. However, at York, they’re self-absorbed authoritarian time bombs who’d rather cut class to play hacky-sack and start a drum circle.
